- For general information on mental health and to find local treatment services, call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Treatment Referral Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
- The SAMHSA website has a Behavioral Health Treatment Services Locator that can search for treatment information by address, city, or ZIP code.

Canada
- Canadian Mental Health Association is a national organization that promotes the mental health for everyone, and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness
- CMHA doesn’t provide direct mental health services or support, so you should contact your local CMHA for more information about mental health programs and service near you. You can find this by going to: cmha.ca/find-your-cmha
- In Ontario, the Ontario Mental Health Helpline: 1-866-531-2600, or http://www.mentalhealthhelpline.ca/
- Also in Ontario (GTA specifically) - Planned Parenthood Toronto offers free mental health counselling

- Also, CAMH, which we mentioned in our last episode, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, is an EXCELLENT resource – cannot speak highly enough of them
- they’re in Ontario, but even just their website is a good resource for finding good resources and suggestions
- Access CAMH is a phone-based service that provides information and resources for individuals and their families on mental illness, addiction and concurrent disorders.
- provide information about how families can access CAMH services for a family member or friend, as well as provide information about services available in the community (including crisis centres), and can connect families to support groups and educational sessions co-ordinated by CAMH.
- Call Access CAMH for mental health and addictions information, eligibility requirements and instructions on making a referral to CAMH, to refer yourself for addictions services. Most patients looking for help with drugs, alcohol or other addictions will be scheduled for their first appointment in one call.

In Crisis?
- If You Are in Crisis: Call the toll-free National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service is available to anyone. All calls are confidential.
- Or If you are thinking about harming yourself or thinking about suicide:
- Tell someone who can help right away
- Call your licensed mental health professional if you are already working with
- Call your doctor
- Go to the nearest hospital emergency department
- If a loved one is considering suicide:
- Do not leave him or her alone
- Try to get your loved one to seek immediate help from a doctor or the nearest hospital emergency room, or call 911
- Remove access to firearms or other potential tools for suicide, including medications
